I went to A&E, a long wait which I know is normal. A trolley came round with drinks and sandwiches which was very good and needed. After I got seen. I was put into a small room on my own. The room was an absolute disgusting mess. Dried blood on the wall and mirror which I know has been there for some time. Not just that day. The floor looked like it hadn't been mopped for 1 year. The oak door was badly worn down from beds. Wheelchairs rammed into it do get into the room which I understand. But the door looked like drift wood as so badly worn down.
I was then put into another room with 6 armchairs and a nurse looking after us. I can't fault the nurses work. She was Fantastic! Then a male nurse took over as it was the end of her shift. Again fantastic and such a naturally funny guy that he made me forget I was ill.
Anyway, I had to sleep in that room on my chair. OMG it was hard. I slept from 2am to 4am only. In a crazy position. There was a guy opposite me who had to wee in a paper bottle with a sheet to cover him. In view of all of us strangers. I was the youngest in that room - I'm in my late 40s. Please replace those chairs with recliner chairs. There was 2 recliners out of 6 chairs.
We was waiting for a bed. I eventually got a bed in the correct maur room I think it's called that. I can't fault the nurses. The level of care I got was fantastic. After nearly 2 days I got moved to Witham ward. And as the guy pushed my bed between the wards there was maybe 30 bagged mattresses on the floor near the lift. The guy told me if there was a fire in the hospital then the hospital would be in deep trouble with clogged up entrances etc.
Again, can't fault the nurses in Witham. But the air con is stuck on cold and never turned off. The room was freezing all the time. There was a guy opposite me who couldn't move or feed himself etc. And he must have been cold without a doubt. A guy 2 beds up from me died and was left there for maybe 4 hours before he was removed. I have never been in a room with a dead person. Something I will never forget.
But the room was so cold. I did ask for it to be sorted but nothing was done. Other patients were also cold and complained about it. The toilet room was warm. So was the nurse reception area. But us patients had to stay cold?
I gave a number 1 review of the amount of care I received and the hard working staff. Also I'm quite sure a male nurse did a 24hr shift. The food was very good indeed. I'm so grateful I got care to make me better as I went in with phenomena. I wish now I had gone to a different hospital.
