"inapropriate and unprofessional comment"

I have suffered 6 miscarriages and I asked to be referred to Guys & St Thomas's NHS Trust Assisted Conception Unit for a second opinion as I was told they had 2 consultants who specialised in this field.

We had to wait over 2 months for the appointment and then when finally the day came we were met with a registrar doctor after an hour's wait. She knew nothing about us despite the notes being sent to her department and yet she only asked the most basic of questions - for instance she asked nothing about my family history. She knew very little about recurrent miscarriage - having read a number of books about my problem I felt I knew 100% more than her. She ran off at one point to ask the consultant what she should do with us - needless to say we did not get to meet him. She came back and suggested a hycosy which is fine and has been done now - nobody expected to find anything and funnily enough they didn't.

The one thing that really annoyed me through this pointless meeting with a junior and clearly inexperienced doctor was her comment and I quote: "oh I'm absolutely certain you will have a baby" !!!

How on earth could she say that - it has to be the most unprofessional thing anyone has ever said to us and it really upset myself and my husband - but we were so shocked and annoyed about the whole set-up that neither of us said anything at the time. I really wish I had now. This process is upsetting enough without crass and stupid comments like that.

Needless to say we are now going private and seeing specialist doctors at St Mary's Recurrent Miscarriage Unit. We can't afford it but after that waste of time of a doctor we have very little faith in Guys.
