"Not impressed "

About: Psychiatry-UK

I recently underwent an assessment, during which I was informed that I have ADHD and exhibit traits of ASD. Unfortunately, I was not prescribed medication due to my history of high blood pressure and my age. Instead, I was recommended cold showers and meditation as alternative approaches. Upon discussing this with my GP, I learned that my blood pressure was in good standing at their last evaluation, and my GP also disagreed with the assessment's conclusions, about medication.

I followed up with a courteous email asking that my case be reconsidered considering my GP's insights. However, I was unexpectedly discharged from the service and lost access to their portal, including my email access.

I am aware that a letter was sent to my GP about my case, and I plan to obtain my records to discuss a potential doctor-to-doctor appeal with him. Overall, I was deeply disappointed with the service I received, especially considering that I believe a private patient would have been prescribed medication without hesitation. Unfortunately, there was no willingness to discuss my situation further, and the decision to discharge me felt abrupt.

I am fortunate to have a supportive GP who I trust to aid in resolving this matter. However, it is important for the NHS to reevaluate their relationship with this particular service, as my experience has not been satisfactory.

Dear Deborah,

Thank you for leaving such an in-depth review. We completely understand your frustrations and appreciate the time you took to share your experience.

At Psychiatry UK the safety of our patients is our foremost priority. While your GP might have a different perspective, our online prescribing service requires us to consider all factors to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients. If our clinicians determine that it is not safe to prescribe medication, they are obliged to decline prescribing to protect the patient's health.

We apologise for the disappointment this has caused you and appreciate your understanding of the complex considerations involved in our decision-making process.

If you'd like to discuss this further, please reach out to our patient safety team at experience@psychiatry-uk.com.

Thank you once again for your feedback.

Kind Regards

Psychiatry UK
