I'm delighted to say that I received exemplary podiatry treatment from Patricia, a senior podiatrist at the Bradbury Health Centre in Belfast, as an emergency patient recently.
Patricia paid very detailed attention to dealing with the large toenail that had penetrated my toe on both corners, causing substantial pain and redness at the front of my foot. Patricia told me that the redness may be the 'sunset' effect that occurs with foot arteries in the elderly but I am glad to report that the redness has subsided markedly since my visit and my foot now looks a pretty normal colour.
Patricia also operated superbly with all of my other toes on both feet, including those with nail tufts underneath the nail. At the end of the session, I was able to walk normally for the first time in over a week.
One thing that bothers me greatly is that this local NHS Podiatry Service is facing such demand that it now is only able to make appointments for patients with open wounds, as in my case. And Belfast has hardly any private podiatrists who agree to deal with 'difficult' feet! I shall be writing to my local MP about this.
In summary, Patricia performed brilliantly throughout and I salute her for doing so.
