This is a follow up to my original review of April of this year.
My mum's care from the HART team began in February, when she returned home from Ninewells hospital after fracturing her pelvis in a fall.
Her confidence has grown with the care she has received and she continues to administer her own medication and see to her own meals, something she started doing a few weeks after her return home. A carer visits 3 times per day and assists with her shower in the morning and checks in on her at teatime and at night. This has worked well, giving her the independence she needs whilst ensuring that she is safe.
She now goes out for short walks with a carer, when the weather allows and when she feels up to it and on occasion a carer will visit in the afternoon, if they have some spare time, to take her for a walk or help with some light exercises. This is one of the amazing things these carers do, of their own volition and for which I am extremely grateful.
As I have mentioned in my previous full review, I am full of respect for the entire HART team who have showed my mum such compassion, patience and understanding. She still finds it peculiar to undress in front of a male carer but because of their attitude to this amazing job they do, she just gets on with it. I am also very proud of my mum for accepting this - I understand how difficult all of these changes have been for her. Although she still, and always will, need reassurance, the commitment shown by her carers has allowed her to regain some confidence and independence and remain in her home. A wonderful thing.
As before, my brother and I continue to be eternally grateful to the HART team, we really could not have wished for better for our mum. I extend our heartfelt thanks to you all for your wonderful care and to the training team who are obviously doing such a spectacular job.
