"Thank you doesn’t seem quite enough."

About: University Hospital Ayr / Endoscopy

(as a service user),

I was booked in for a colonoscopy with the amazing staff in the endoscopy suite in University Hospital Ayr (UHA)!

I was extremely nervous but from the first phone call everyone I spoke to was reassuring and answered any questions I had.

I was admitted to Station 2 at Ayr for support I required during a fast for colonoscopy due to my complicated chronic health.

Upon arrival I was placed into a 6 bed ward which gave me a lot of anxiety due to bowel prep. I was afraid to raise my concerns because I’m very aware of the pressure on the NHS and didn’t want to be a difficult patient.

As soon as I mentioned this to the nurse (Colette or Coleen sorry rubbish with names) she sorted it out and got me a side room to help me complete my prep with less worry. I cannot thank her enough for making what was already an anxious time less anxious! I was then met by ANP Sophia? Who took my blood and made me comfortable.

On the day my scope was performed by Audrey who couldn’t have eased my mind anymore if she tried and effortlessly made the entire situation easier for me.

Morgan and Paris the nurses were incredibly helpful, ensuring I had all I need and was fully informed what was going to happen at each stage. Even having my phone near by to keep an eye on my blood glucose for me.

I cannot thank the staff who looked after me and made these tests easier for me. Fiona, Tracy and Gabby are absolute angels and a credit to the ward. Student Sherene, you’re going to make an incredible nurse.

People usually shout the most about the bad in our NHS but everyone I came across during my stay are incredible and the shining lights we need in the service.

Whilst I’ll not be lining up for another scope any time soon, I feel reassured and less anxious due to the wonderful team who treated me that day.

Thank you just doesn’t seem enough.
