"Help for my adult son who has autism and learning disabilities"

About: Intellectual Developmental Disabilities /Learning Disability Services - Community / IDD South (Broxtowe, Gedling, Rushcliffe)

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was referred by his mental health doctor at Highfield Hospital to the Community Intellectual Disability Nurses Team, for help with getting his weight under control and his habit of picking his face. My son received excellent support and advice from 2 different nurses (due to his initial nurse going on maternity leave). This took place via a series of home visits, phone calls, e-mails and liaison with his college. He has now stopped gaining weight and lost 10lbs since January and has now stopped picking his face. The picking has now moved onto his nails, but further strategies have now been put in place to help with this too. We are very happy with and grateful for all the support that has been given to our son.

Good afternoon Mumtoson,

Thanks you so much for taking the time to leave this feedback, I am glad that you found the Community Nursing team helpful, and am really pleased to hear that your son's face picking and his weight have both decreased.

I hope things continue to go well for you both, and I will let the nurses know you have been in touch.

Many thanks,

Sara
