"I left the hospital very upset"

About: Gynaecology / Gynaecology Outpatients

(as the patient),

I had an appointment on the towards the end of July at 3pm with a gynae registrar. Originally I was meant to attended Ninewells but my appointment was moved to PRI.

I waited over 2 years for a 20 minute appointment, during which the Dr took a call about another patient. This action alone I found to be incredibly rude and disrespectful of my time.

Moreover, during the appointment I was asked a series of questions I did not understand even after repeatedly asking for clarification.

I was given the appointment due to pelvic pain, lower back pain and pain during sex. All of which were assessed by 3 GPs at 3 different practices who agreed this referral was the correct course of action after exhausting alternative diagnosis and treatments. The Dr at this appointment suggested working with my GP to look for alternative treatment, this completely disregarded the history I went through where I told them I had no other options.

When discussing my pain, I found them to be dismissive. At no point in the appointment did they display any empathy on what I’ve been dealing with. I left the hospital very upset.

The resulting referral for a diagnostic laparoscopy offers me very little comfort and I will hopefully be able to request that this surgery does not occur under NHS Tayside.

I would appreciate if someone contacted me to discuss my experience.
