"I can't wait 7/8 months for a hearing aid"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Audiology Services

(as a service user),

I was attending ent as I was diagnosed with sudden sensorineural hearing loss which has been extremely scary and traumatic the care I had was good after my last appointment I was told I’d be seen in a few weeks again for a follow up and an mri was booked but in the meantime I’m going through hell with extremely loud tinnitus in my bad ear and some over the good ear.

I was under the impression il get checked on in a few weeks and then hearing aid soon after but I phoned today to discover no follow up appointment has been booked and the mri 7/8 months away I can’t possibly wait that time for a hearing aid I can’t even get to speak to one of the consultants on phone to reassure me as I’m extremely anxious and have mental health issues all I need from them is to check my eardrum and next onto hearing aids to help me mask out the screaming loud tinnitus and let me hear again asap I need this to move on

Dear Slidehq99,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback about your recent experience of care you have received within outpatients.

Within Audiology our current waiting list is approximately 13 weeks for a fitting of a hearing aid when a referral is received and hearing test carried out. I would like to ensure this referral has been received in Audiology from the ENT department. Please contact Audiology directly on 028 3756 0872 and we would be more than willing to ensure your hearing aid fitting appointment is booked within this time frame.

We wouldn't need to wait for 8 months for the MRI result to come back in Audiology to fit a hearing aid, however it may depend on the ENT review appointment outcome which we can look into on your behalf. We will endeavor to help you further in Audiology.

Kind regards,

Audiologist, Audiology department, Southern Trust.
