"I found his support invaluable"

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Occupational Therapy University Hospital Hairmyres / Outpatients Occupational Therapy

(as a service user),

I was referred by my GP, Dr Senior, because of mobility issues, numbness and pins and needles.  I have poor dexterity and suffer from pain.

I had a consultation with Connor (Primary Care Occupational Therapist) in mid-February 2024. I felt that Connor put me at ease.  We discussed what my problems were and how he could help with my physical problems and my mental health/wellbeing. On this, and other occasions, there was a student OT present and I feel that Connor was an excellent role model for the students who would have gained a lot from his expertise.

At the initial meeting, Connor arranged a home visit with my husband and myself.  At the home visit, he did a falls risk assessment and suggested aids which might be useful to me.

Between February and July 2024, I saw Connor around 12 times and I found his support invaluable. He also provided support for my husband.

Connor provided me with a vast amount of written material which I found useful.  He gave me details of websites and other electronic resources.  He arranged for me to visit the physiotherapist at the walking aids clinic at Hairmyres Hospital who provided me with a walking stick and a 4 wheeled walking frame.  I have found the walking frame invaluable.

Connor  arranged for me to attend a 10 week Strength and Balance course at the Dollan Aquacentre.  This has been of great benefit to me.

I discussed goals with Connor in terms of what I wanted to achieve.  During my many visits, he asked me how I was feeling and we reviewed progress towards the goals.

He treated me very professionally and in a caring manner.  He showed me the utmost respect and always encouraged me. Connor is a very good listener and he suggested ways to address any issues or concerns that I raised with him. Nothing was too much bother for him.  I felt that I gained an enormous amount from the visits.
