"Amazing staff with my son in hospital"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Accident & Emergency Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Dalhousie Ward

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was unwell, so took him to the hospital. We were seen fairly quickly in the emergency department and he was diagnosed with diabetes and was in diabetic ketoacidosis.

That afternoon he was moved to critical care, where he was cared for with respect and dignity. 2 days later he was moved to Dalhousie ward, where we were so well looked after. Nothing was any bother with the staff, they were super friendly and professional.

We've been home a few months now and learning to live with this condition and the onward support we've had from the diabetic paediatric team is phenomenal. They do a fantastic job with such a difficult subject!

Dear alphaxe3745,

I am sorry to hear your son was unwell and needed to be admitted to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.

This must have been a very worrying time for you all, so I am pleased to hear that you felt that he was cared for with respect and dignity and have been supported.

Our teams know that diabetes is a very complex condition so it is great that you feel the team are helping you learn and are supporting you on this journey at home.

Feedback is really important to us so I have shared your story with the Emergency Department, Dalhousie, Critical Care and Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nursing teams. Thank you for taking your time to tell us about your experience and I hope your son is recovering well from this admission.
