"Treated dismissively"

About: Maternity care / Maternity Assesment/Triage

(as a service user),

My partner’s water broke 2 days prior to our arrival to the hospital. A staff member immediately treated my partner dismissively, informing us that there was no point in us having a car seat as we’d not see our baby for at least 3 days. Told us that doctors would maybe see us but if they had to see someone else they’d leave immediately without notice. My partner was worried about a cannula and the staff member just said it needed to be done so they'd just get it in. Then proceeded to stab the needle in the wrong area twice causing bruising in her hand.

We found this staff member to be abrupt, rude and careless.

Dear coinsw47,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your partner's experience her at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Maternity Unit in Glasgow.

I am sorry to read that your partner felt that they were treated dismissively and that you found the member of staff to be abrupt, rude and careless.

It is always our aim to ensure that women and their families are treated with kindness and compassion at all times and I am sorry that this was not the case during your recent experience.

If you or your partner feel that further discussion would be beneficial, please feel free to contact me on the email below.

Kind regards

Gaynor
