"Losing our father"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Roskear Ward

(as a relative),

I would like to raise this as a positive experience

Our father was admitted to hospital following a cardiac arrest. Not in good health we understood this as his final days and a chance to say good bye. The Resus nurse was incredible and the care shown to him was patient and family centred, respectful and empathic.

After a night of barely sleeping beside him we found ourselves wornout, aching from the strained positions to hold his hand and often falling asleep in the family room where a kind volunteer wrapped us in blankets.

From here, our father was moved to Roskear Ward where nurse Georgie and NA Alex greeted us. Again the care was exceptional, our questions answered, our views sought and with the upmost to make us feel comfortable so we could best support our dad. A bed brought in so we could stay, our parking fee waived, and endless cups of tea

We said goodbye to our father after a very long two days but the love and compassion shown to him and us from each ward has been incredible and made a very hard situation that little bit easier.

I hope this message see's it's way to all who helped care for Percy Roy Martin, our father, our grandfather and one amazing man. I want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such positive feedback. I know that the staff will appreciate that the care and attention given to Roy and the family made a difficult time that little bit easier.

Stories such as yours will go a long way to reassuring others who may have to visit our department.

I will ensure that this is passed on to the team involved in your care.

We are all very sorry for your loss and wish you all the best.

Lauren Mellow,

Ward Sister

I work in the Emergency Department as a Sister. I support a team of nurses and doctors in delivering emergency care. I co-manage performance and conduct with the ED senior team in line with local and national policies. I believe that maintaining contact post attendance with our services users is really beneficial. Gaining your valuable feedback can help us create changes so we can deliver the best service we can.
