"Fantastic care from a absolute gem of a lady"

About: Glasgow Dental Hospital and School / Paediatric Dentistry - Level 5

(as a parent/guardian),

I would love to feedback on a member of staff from the Glasgow Dental Hospital. Her name is Fiona (Dental Therapist).

My daughter has severe anxiety and even more so with anything medical-related. She was born very premature and ended up with PTSD due to the trauma of having so many medical things done in her younger years.

She was referred to the Glasgow Dental Hospital and she was assigned to Fiona a couple of years ago. From the moment we met Fiona, I just knew my daughter would be at ease with her. She was so calm and kind and exactly what my daughter needed.

Over many, many months of Fiona’s time and patience, they built up a relationship. My daughter gained Fiona's trust and then started to allow Fiona to do more and more at each appointment. The end goal was for my daughter to be able to get teeth out and braces.

Unfortunately, because my daughter turned 16 she would be discharged from the Glasgow dental hospital which I was very disappointed with as Fiona has spent a long time with her. She was exactly the kind of dental therapist my daughter needed.  Someone calm and patient and explaining everything she was doing.

Down to all of Fiona’s hard work, I am delighted to say that my daughter finally managed to get her braces fitted recently. This is massive for her and I believe it was down to Fiona’s kindness.

I would also like to thank the dental nurses who worked alongside Fiona as they were all so lovely and some even remembered my daughter. Fiona is an absolute credit to the dental hospital and anyone with nervous young people they should ask for Fiona. She is one in a million and thanks to her my daughter will one day have a beautiful smile. 😊

Dear Denise583,

I have been very interested to read about your daughters experience and sorry to hear of the challenges that she has faced in her life. It can be so difficult for our patients if previous treatment affects the delivery of care that is required.

With the help of our team in Paediatric Dentistry and a skilled Dental Therapist like Fiona, we often find that patients are able to leave this behind and achieve the best possible outcome. I hope that your daughter feels prepared and ready to access dental care outside a Hospital setting, now that she has reached sixteen.

I will share your very complimentary feedback directly with Fiona and the Dental Nurses in Paediatric Dentistry. I know that Fiona will be thrilled she has made such a difference.

Thank you so much for taking time to tell us how you found our service, it is greatly appreciated. Wishing your daughter all the very best for her ongoing Orthodontic treatment.

Kindest regards,

Fiona
