"A very special place with very special"

I recently had an appointment, the first time I had visited the prosthesis clinic since 2019.  I have been wearing the same size of breast prosthesis since my Mastectomy 15 years ago and due to Covid, had my last one posted to me. 

I have been feeling low for some time now, due to having had Covid and then gaining weight due to my long convalescence. Over the years I have been fitted for the perfect fit bra, but to be honest none have felt comfortable. I have bought many from various Mastectomy bra providers but with great disappointment.

Lately, I have been in a downward spiral and felt miserable and extremely uncomfortable because of my lop-sided appearance, due to my prosthesis being the wrong size, and wearing the completely wrong size of bra.  

I arrived for my appointment with trepidation and severe lack of confidence. I was met by the secretary of the Clinic who offered me some water, and came back with an ice-cold bottle of water. A simple token but so very much appreciated!

I was then met by Nicola, the most kind, compassionate and very knowledgable young lady.  She immediately made me feel at ease and could see straight away, just when talking to me, that I most definitely was wearing an ill fitting bra. As it turned out, not only was I wearing the wrong size of bra but my prosthesis was the wrong size too!

Within 10 minutes, she had me in a bra that fitted perfectly (once she had altered it to suit my body) and offered me the most fantastic prosthesis I have ever seen! An adapt Air Xtra Light Breast Form which, when fitted properly, simply adapted to my uneven mastectomy site.  I have never felt anything fitting so well before!  The weals and fiery marks on my skin from my previously badly fitting bra were simply covered by, what I thought, was the most beautiful bra I have worn since my mastectomy! The image I was looking at in the mirror seemed to have a waist too! And all because of a properly fitting bra!  

I can't begin to thank Nicola for her patience, attention to detail and care that she spent on me during my time with her.  She made sure that the bra was indeed the right one for me, that it fitted properly and that I was happy with the new Breast Form.  She provided me with catalogues that would have bras to suit my needs, along with information of where to source others online. She assured me that I can contact her again at any time, should I need help with my prosthesis in the future.  Nothing was too much of a bother for her and I felt that I was never rushed along. 

I arrived at my appointment full of despair but left full of confidence, knowing that not only did I look better but my low mood and despondency had lifted. I left the hospital skipping along the corridor!  And all because I was made to feel that I was worth spending time on!   

This clinic is indeed a very special place with very special people working in it. I thank them so much, not only for making sure that my Breast Form and bra were the correct size for me, but for healing my broken spirit too. I shall continue to praise them and give thanks for their very special talents. I thank them for giving me back the confidence that I had lost.
