"The care I received was beyond anything I expected"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Gynaecology North Devon District Hospital / Maternity care Torrington Hospital

(as the patient),

Due to domestic abuse I lost my baby in my second trimester. I want to say how amazing and wonderful the staff were at both Torrington Hospital and North Devon District Hospital (NDDH).

From the initial contact with my midwife Sarah and her admin lady Helen I was treated with compassion and dignity always, they were at the end of the phone for all my worries and concerns and sent me for a reassurance scan when I felt things were not right.

I went for scans at NDDH maternity unit and again they were amazing especially Lauren who understood my Mental Health and helped to keep my anxiety under wraps, and also helped to calm me when having a panic attack.  She should be really proud of herself as she understood Mental Health and dealt with it so well.

We then had the pleasure to be directed to your Petter Ward and met Danielle and Tammy.  Danielle was amazing, she was compassionate and informative and was able to answer all my questions.  Danielle helped me through one of the most difficult and traumatic decisions I have ever had to made.  She made me feel that what I had to do was for the right reasons and for that I will be eternally grateful.

I was then admitted to the KG5 where I gave birth to my sleeping baby.  The care I received was beyond anything I expected. The 3 nurses that treated me over my stay, Lucy, Riya and Lesley all treated me with compassion and respect and never once made me feel that what happened was my fault.

I was given a memory box and also a Teddy donated by another family who had lost a child, these have been a comforting gift which I have sat with my daughter and gone through the box with her.

Barnstaple Hospital is a lovely clean hospital and the staff treat patients with respect and courtesy.

Well done to an amazing team of staff at NDDH.

Thank you all X.
