I am in my 30s and I needed an emergency hysterectomy, after my op I was sent to Cley ward, it was the most unprofessional, stressful and upsetting time of my life.
I was left without pain relief after asking for some at 9pm until 3am, I am allergic to morphine yet one nurse actually handed me a syringe of 10ml morphine to take orally with no questions asked, of course I made them aware that I'm allergic and even pointed out this information was all over my notes, to which they replied - no it's not.
I was absolutely horrified as I know it is all over my notes because it was included in my pre-op that morning to which myself and family witnessed the surgeon write it on them. I was then told by the same nurse and also their senior that it is tough then, take paracetamol or nothing and their words were it's better than nothing!
This is all after one of the most major female surgeries to have. I was left for hours without any relief & in tears, the general stay was harrowing from start to finish, the staff were rude, unprofessional and I feel they lacked in competence.
I was turfed out after 1 day's stay because they needed the bed, even though I was advised to pack for 2/3 nights etc and to totally rest up. They simply needed the bed and are understaffed so I was discharged.
Absolutely disgraced by our NHS and NNUH, but mostly Cley ward at present.
