"The biggest thank you for everything"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Occupational Therapy Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Physiotherapy Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Rehabilitation Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Speech & Language Therapy

(as a relative),

My auntie was admitted into the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Glasgow earlier this year with a stroke. She was a few days later moved over to ward 57 in the rehab Langland's building, where she was more than cared for.

We as a family were all extremely worried about her and knew she had a long road to recovery ahead of her as she wasn't able to walk, talk or even eat/drink.  From the minute she was admitted into ward 57 we were greeted by many staff who all introduced themselves, from nurses to physios, this really did help to calm us all down as we didn't know what we were dealing with.  They gave her the rest of that day to get settled and spoke with myself about what we could do to help her feel more homely, jammies, blankets etc.

My aunt got physio, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy almost everyday and honestly we noticed so much improvement in those first few weeks. The staff were so friendly and supportive to us all, even just giving my aunt a hugs and helping her celebrate when she had a big achievement. These little things brought a tear to my eye because it's this kind of care and attention that helps keep you going through the tough times and keeping her happy in such a rubbish time of her life.  My aunt was in hospital for 3 1/2 months and i could not ask for better staff to be around her in that time, even the porters were amazing, popping by and giving her a wave and a smile, that is what it is all about.

My only criticism would be that there isn't much to do at the weekends, especially on a Sunday. This was the worst day for my aunt, it was so quiet and depressing. I feel it would have been good to have something for the patients to keep their spirits up on a Sunday.

My aunt walked out the hospital and was able to eat and drink and talk some, she still has a long road ahead but she wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the staff. So I could go on all day but i would like to give ALL the staff in ward 57 in Langland's building Queen Elizabeth the biggest thank you for everything you done, you are all amazing.  My aunt's physios, Gillian, Ryan and Mairi, also Brogan and Eve (SPL), then Rachel (OT), you guys are amazing!!!

Hi Nic2201

First of all I would like to say how sorry I was to read that your aunt had a stroke. That must have been such a stressful time for you all. I was however reassured to read that you felt the staff in ward 57 provided your aunt with the best care.Thank you too for taking the time out to provide us which such vital positive feedback that will help with boosting morale on the ward. I will certainly pass this on to the team and I know that the speech and language therapists will be delighted to see this too

I am sorry about how quiet things feel like at the weekend but I will also feedback about the lack of activities for your aunt and the rest of the patients at the weekend. it can feel quite quiet then in comparison to the week day activities.

I am glad your aunt is recovering and wish her all the best with her future rehabilitation

Best wishes

Catherine
