"I'll never be able to thank those who helped my baby enough"

About: Royal Jubilee Maternity services / Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was born by emergency C section in the Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital. Unfortunately during labour and birth she developed a condition called Meconium Aspiration which is essentially where she ingested faecal matter and as a result her lungs struggled to function as they should. At 2 days old we were told that our daughter was extremely sick and she may pass throughout the night.

During this time, the staff in the NICU were in talks with a hospital in Leister where we later discovered, our daughter had been accepted for a procedure called ECMO where she would go if she made it through the night. My miracle baby did make it through the night and she continued to fight and to show signs of progress.

I will never be able to thank those who helped my baby enough, but i will never forget the staff in the Royal Belfast NICU who helped her. Everyone from the nurses, health care assistants, doctors, and everyone in between but especially a big thank you to one of our consultants Dr Millar who i personally will never forget and who i believe played a massive part in saving my daughter's life.

Good Afternoon KellyMcC1

My name is Lisa Darrah and I am the Lead Midwife for the Neonatal Unit in Belfast.

Firstly congratulations on the birth of your little daughter. I am so sorry to hear that she had to be transferred to the NICU and subsequently Leister following her birth. I can appreciate what a scary time this was for you all. I hope she is doing well now.

Thank you for taking the time to give such lovely feedback to all the staff especially Dr Millar. I will ensure that your feedback is shared with him and all of the team. I know that it will be much appreciated as such lovely comments really do make a difference to the team.

Many Thanks

Lisa
