"It was simply perfect"

About: Maternity care / Consultant Led Unit

(as a relative),

Today I had the privilege to experience the birth of my granddaughter, and it was simply perfect!

From the minute of arrival, we were treated by knowledgeable and informative staff, with kindness, compassion and professionalism. Each and every one we came into contact with, had a smile on their face and a there to help attitude.

The environment was clean and welcoming. My only concern was for the poor folks at the bus stop who must have heard the screams!

Whilst grateful to all, I must acknowledge the leadership of CarryAnn. She was visible, reassuring and a great role model.

Laura, our midwife was amazing, she remained calm and confident at all times and provided support exactly when it was needed. She listened to us and explained things. She guided us  at every step of the way from start to finish- a huge thanks!

She also did a great job of teaching and mentoring Michelle who was a first year student,  who is now an expert with a Doppler and can add fishing to her core skillset! She did a great job and was kind, engaging and responsive to everyone's needs. Michelle, you have a bright future ahead!

Nicola was our next godsend, she brought her years of experience into the room, which was tangible when things were not textbook. Her quiet confidence was reassuring, as were her seamstress skills, thanks Nicola.

I can't recall the name of the midwife who weighed and measured my granddaughter, but what struck me about her was her thoroughness and how informative she was. She gave Michelle an excellent lesson on that first baby check, so much so I feel equipped to undertake one myself!

To those who brought us tea and toast and supported with care, to those in the wings who keep these areas cleaned and stocked, prep the food etc etc, a huge thanks to you all. What a team!

We could not have been cared for any better, simply amazing care.

One hugely grateful family for supporting the safe arrival of our granddaughter.

Congratulations Grandma (Processpeeps)

The wonder of birth never ceases to amaze and the added joy of witnessing the next generation of your family enter the world, coupled with the strength and courage of your own child to achieve this is breathtaking. You have described the awe of it beautifully.

We appreciate your recognition of all the team. Our domestic and auxiliary staff are essential to the running of our departments and it is so kind you have acknowledged their hard work. I will share your message.

Thank you also as a family in permitting our future generations of midwives to learn and expand their knowledge in caring for your family. Being able to participate in care is essential for developing our future workforce but we also understand it is not easy permitting others in at a vulnerable time.

Supportive birthing partners are so important for women to fell empowered and safe through the birthing process, I am sure your presence would have been an immense source of comfort for your daughter.

Rest easy I am assured there was no trauma experienced from those waiting on the Number 9 bus!.

We wish you and all generations of your family our very best wishes. Enjoy all those Grandma cuddles,

Pamela Higgins
