"Care I received throughout was exceptional"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Physiotherapy Crosshouse Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a service user),

I waited 4 years for my ACL reconstruction after having a fall.  I was advised by my surgeon to lose 2 stones as it would make the procedure safer and increase the chance of it being successful.  I had 2 surgeons in theatre as my ACL reconstruction was more complicated as I have hypermobility and they had to do a bone ligament bone graft.  That week I joined slimming world and managed to lose 3st 10lbs in 5 months before surgery.

My surgery was autumn 2023 and I have worked tirelessly with the lower limb class at physio in Crosshouse hospital to get my mobility back and get my knee functioning as normal again.   As of today I have lost 6st 10.5lbs and have gone from a size 20 to a size 10.  I reached my target weight in 11 months by walking, doing my physio and cycling, all things I could not have done before.

The exemplary care I received throughout was exceptional and I thank the whole team from surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, physios, care assistants for pushing me and getting me to where I am today.

Dear Sarnd39

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of the care provided by the Orthopaedic and Physiotherapy Teams at University Hospital Crosshouse.

I am sorry to hear that you had to wait 4 years for your ACL reconstruction, but what a fantastic achievement in losing almost 4 stone in the 5 months prior to your surgery and almost 7 stone in total to date. This is an incredible achievement and testament to your hard work and commitment to regain your mobility.

I am delighted to hear that you received such professional and supportive care from our staff. This is a lovely example of different Teams working together to provide the patient centred care we always aim to deliver.

Our staff really appreciate receiving feedback from their patients and it will be my pleasure to share your kind comments with the wider Teams you have mentioned. I know they will be delighted to hear that you feel so well supported by them.

Please accept my best wishes for your ongoing recovery and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
