"Thinking about the journey that we went on"

About: Community Mental Health (Dundee) / Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Community Nurses (Dundee)

(as a service user),

An absolutely fantastic service who I won’t ever be able to thank enough! I was discharged just over a year ago so I’m a bit late doing this, but I still think most days about the support I received from Nell, Pauline and Justine. I was cared for and supported by the team from about 20 weeks pregnant up to my daughter’s first birthday. The staff I was lucky enough to work with went above and beyond to build relationships, took the time I needed, working at my pace which sometimes was just sitting in silence, but they were always there and always checked in. I genuinely believe it’s because of their support that I am here watching my beautiful girls grow up and feel in control of my life again. A year on since discharge, I’m still using skills and techniques and thinking about the journey that we went on and I won’t ever be able to thank them all enough. Special thanks to the wonderful Nell (Psychologist) and Pauline (Nurse) who never gave up!

Dear mum of beautiful daughters,

Thank you for your lovely post about your previous involvement with the perinatal mental health team.

It is so nice to hear of your progress a year on from your contact with the perinatal team and your journey in motherhood, especially your comment that you feel back in control of your life again. The staff you worked with will be delighted to hear this and how you benefitted from their support during what must have been a difficult time for you. I will ensure Nell, Justine, Pauline and the rest of the team receives your positive feedback of their support.

Pregnancy and the postnatal period can be a challenging time for many mums and it sounds like you worked really hard to overcome a challenging time and have learned helpful new skills, techniques and increased your confidence as a person and as a parent. Thank you for taking the time to reflect on your journey and share your experiences with others, as by doing so you will give hope to other mums who may be reading this who may be struggling, and give them the encouragement to seek help and support.

On behalf of the team I wish you continued enjoyment and happiness from being a mum to your beautiful daughters as they grow up.
