I attended Cannock Chase Hospital for my THR operation in June 2024. Before the operation I attended a Pre-op session and also went to the Joint School class. These were great and the staff involved in both of these very useful and informative sessions were brilliant. The Joint School team were exceptional. Very knowledgeable, reassuring but also realistic about explaining what to expect.
On my arrival for the operation I was very nervous as this was my first operation as an adult (had my tonsils out when I was 4). I needn't have worried though because .....
The staff on Hollybank prior to the op were so reassuring & kind and couldn't do enough to make me comfortable whilst I was waiting to go to surgery.
The surgical team were fantastic ... a special huge thank you to the Anaesthetist and his team who made the experience of having the spinal injection so much easier than I expected it to be! And of course to the surgical team who did the necessary hard work to replace my worn out hip whilst I dozed comfortably sedated and kept warm by a lovely device I believe is called a Bear Hug.
I then spent a night in SECU and the nurses on that unit are angels in disguise! For reasons I won't go into here, I can attest to the fact that they have patience and kindness beyond belief. There is one nurse in particular who is getting a personal thank you card from me. In fact I would give her a medal if I could!
Then I was transferred to Hilton Main Ward for one more night before being discharged on the Wednesday. Again, the staff on Hilton were great although there was an issue with my dressing change just before I was discharged. This was however quickly sorted out with the help of a senior nurse.
Overall, I can't rate Cannock Chase Hospital highly enough. The majority of the staff have a very positive attitude and are committed to what they do and the care they provide. I felt I was treated as an individual rather than just another patient "passing through" the system. At all times I was asked if I needed anything and reminded that if I was in pain to let the nursing staff know straight away. Complete care and concern for my comfort was obvious.
Kudos all round and thank you so very much for getting me through this major milestone operation successfully.
