"Positive experience with Outpatient Psychiatrist"

About: Royal Cornhill Hospital / Adult mental health

(as a service user),

I recently changed psychiatrists which is a very daunting experience for me. However, it had been an incredibly positive experience. I am now under the care of Dr Awad and I feel like we have been making progress.

I have found my experience with psychiatry very varied. The majority of psychiatrists I have interacted with seem very keen to throw medications at the problem, and repeat therapies that have not worked previously. I feel they have not always viewed me holistically and this has led to very disjointed care and not all my needs being met. I think it would be helpful to have more of a multidisciplinary team approach and a willingness to try different therapies etc. Until recently, people have kept adding more and more diagnoses and told me that there is little they can do for me. I feel like Dr Awad really listens and looks at alternatives as well as reviewing my medications and looking at me as a whole person.

Thank you so much for taking the time to offer your feedback on your recent experience. It is of course very much welcomed when your recent contact with our services has been a positive one. We have shared this with Dr Awad directly.

May I also take the opportunity to thank you for persevering when you have not found your contact with us the most helpful. We all work in Multi disciplinary teams but this may not always have been clear or obvious if you only see one member. We will take this feedback to consider how we can improve this for you and others in our service. Thank you once again and I wish you well in your ongoing recovery.
