I started binge drinking at the age 12 -13. This then became drinking due to depression which got worse over time. Also I was unable to sleep and drink helped me to blackout. This went on into my 20's and got worse I also OD''d on a pain killer at this time.
I decided I needed help when my relationships were being impacted. I was angry and breaking all my ties.
Last year I sought help with Turning Point. I found this hard at first to talk to them. It took about 5 months to be accepted at Dame Carol.
Knowing I had a place was a massive relief. I was anxious all the time in the build up.
Day one at DCDS I found ok, I immediately felt welcome by the staff and my peers. On day three I started getting panic attacks with the realisation.
It was my bonds and support with with other clients that got me through playing games and support of staff that got me through.
I have found the experience here life changing and I'm so glad I did this.
