(as a service user),

I recently had an appointment at X-Ray department in the Arbroath Hospital. The receptionist gave me a card to share my opinion as I described to her the difficulty it took me to get to the hospital.

I could not walk to the bus stop and my sister needed to take me to the hospital, which took us a long time to arrange, and it was a long journey. A taxi would have cost me a fortune, but that was my only option besides my sister taking me to the appointment.

I do not understand why I could not have an appointment in Forfar and why the hospital is closed for X-ray appointments? It would be good if they could re-open it as without my sister, I could not have been able to attend my appointment.

Dear nitratetm69,

Thanks for taking the time to post this response, and apologise for the difficulties you have had in getting to your x-ray appointment.

I am sure you are talking about Forfar rather than Forth Valley.

Currently the x-ray room is at the end of useful life in Forfar and it has developed a major fault. We are currently working through the options in terms of Radiology service delivery for Angus.

The Forfar facility is open 3 days a week maximum when staffing is available, but facilities for general x-ray are available at both Arbroath and Stracathro in Angus.

Within Tayside, Radiology operate from a number of sites, but due to the specialist nature of equipment and staff we cannot operate from all sites, and need patients to travel throughout the region to maximise capacity and to ensure waiting times are kept as low as possible.
