"2 week cancer fast-track failures"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Colorectal surgery

(as a service user),

Following a consultation with a private consultant, been referred by my GP for bowel cancer fast-track investigations. The consultant says my symptoms meet the NICE criteria; Northampton says they don't. So they now want me to wait and re-test for blood in my poo before they'll even reconsider me. So if I do have cancer, I have to let it get worse before they'll even agree to see me! Who would you believe? A nurse/administrator in the cancer unit or a renowned cancer specialist? Apparently it's all down to the criteria being different between the private consultant and Northamptonshire, despite very clear NICE guidelines. Is cancer regional? NICE don't think so - and nor do I!
