My Dad collapsed at home due to very poor mobility and had to be admitted to the Hairmyres hospital at the beginning of May 2024 . He remained in hospital for 10 weeks during which time he was diagnosed as having suffered a silent stroke at some point in the past and this caused some damage to his brain which affected his mental capacity . All of this caused me a huge deal of worry and stress but the social worker that I liased with at the hospital (Nicole) was very supportive and took the time to hear about my Dad’s background and life story and reassured me that she would help and support me as much as possible in getting my Dad the appropriate care for his needs. My Dad had expressed a wish to me that if he had to go into a care home that he wanted to be placed in the care home where my Mum was a resident before passing away recently . This is a place that he visited daily to be with mum and developed a very close bond with the staff and other residents there and I promised him I would do everything I could to get him there. Nicole has been instrumental in making this happen and I am very grateful to her and her colleagues within the social work department for their wonderful assistance and support during this very difficult time and for helping get the best outcome for my Dad.
