"Good practice (inexperienced doctor)"

About: Newthorpe Medical Practice

Having been taken rather ill last Saturday, with a condition that gradually worsened throughout the weekend, with the symptoms I was displaying, I was strongly advised to take a Covid test

I had been provided with a test kit by the hospital due to my suppressed autoimmune and in the event that it was positive, to alert 111 so they could advise the next steps

They took all the relevant data concerning my condition, which was deemed serious enough to trigger antiviral treatment at the cdmu

My age 67 and the medication which affects my auto immunity, they to contacted the lady nurse on duty calls and instructed a call back to discuss

In essence she wasn’t interested and even suggested ibuprofen to fight the condition, which I am not allowed to take by strict order from my consultant

The doctor realising her error, then agreed to discuss with her colleagues and would call me back

Alternatively she referred me back to 111

I never received a call back and was left in a painful and disabling state and after prompting the receptionist was assured she would take it up immediately

The doctor never even had the courtesy to call back instead choosing to instruct the receptionist to call Leaving a voicemail saying doctor says if your condition worsens call 999 and get an ambulance, with no mention of a referral

How sorry you must feel for those receptionist having to answer to a totally unscrupulous docto, with no recognition of empathy, regard or respect for her patients

I was forced to contact 111 a second time who were astonished at this unprofessional behaviour

They in turn arranged for one of their doctors to call me back after which time my condition had deteriorated further

They counselled me at length and produced an email report which the dispatched immediately to the doctor instructing her to arrange my referral asap

Their only explanation for this conduct which in their eyes fell well below the professional standards was that “some gp’s now consider Covid a low priority and are out of touch with current Covid procedures “

Alarming to say the least

I received a txt message from the gp doctor who advised she had made the referral and to expect a phone call

I have saved the text and telephone message for reference

Surprisingly the call never came so I contacted them myself only to be told there was no such referral and I wasn’t on the system, which I hasten to add was done in a very efficient manner

The synic in me would suggest this was a deliberate act on this doctors part, which should be investigated, reported with a reasonable explanation offered

Not only does these actions affect the good standing of the surgery (who I hasten to add my family and I having been with for may year), but also puts a black mark on the nhs in general

I would ask that the practice don’t put a black mark against me or my wife because of this review, rather understand how and why and what can they do to avoid a reoccurrence

Best regard
