"Both good & bad experiences of health & care services"

About: HMP New Hall / Substance Misuse Service

(as a service user),

To whom it may concern.

My experiences of health and care services at Newhall have been both good and bad. I feel there are more things on substance replacements than reduction plans.

I feel it would be safer if drug reduction plans were mandatory, that way prisoners aren't on it as long and you can focus on your future substance free.

I feel sometimes when prisoners need paracetamol or need to see the Nurse through out the night this is not facilitated.

Women who are on meds throughout the night are taken off this by doctors as the prison actively discourages these medications being prescribed.

N/A meetings do really well but these are not enough, however they are volunteers. N/A meetings could be peer led to help provide more.

Some prisoners have been allowed to stay on methadone for years and in some cases used as a pain killer.
