"I am really disappointed at the way I was treated"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Radiology

(as the patient),

I recently had an appointment at the radiology department.

I attended with my son, who is my carer, as I am blind and disabled and have lots of medical problems.

We didn’t have to wait long till my name was called. I was taken aback when the auxiliary told my son to wait there and they would shout him when I was finished. I said I would rather he came round as that’s what usually happens. The aux/nurse wasn’t to pleased, they didn’t even know I was blind.

When we got round to ultrasound room my son got me onto the bed, which we do all the time and the staff are usually happy for the help. They then told my son to wait outside, which I wasn’t happy about, it would have been nice to be asked if I was happy with that. The nurse also made a comment about us not being happy about being sent out, which didn’t bother us at all, a little bit of respect would have been nice.

The doctor doing the scan wasn’t very nice, their manner was very off putting, they never said a word about what they were doing, to be honest they were rude.

And furthermore the aux/nurse I also found rude, they asked on numerous occasions who looked after me and I said my son, so they kept on about how I should get carers in to give him some help, on numerous occasions I told them we managed and had a routine, they ended up making me feel really bad. As if I wasn’t giving any thought to my son, which really upset me.

When it was time to go home the nurse done everything they could to stop him from coming in to help, the doctor said I will get her son and the nurse said no it’s fine we will get it, the reason my son helps is he knows which bits to touch on my arms back etc as they are all covered in sores from a rare disease called Behcets syndrome which are covered in dressings.

I am really disappointed at the way I was treated.

The other radiologist that was there was really nice. I have seen them on numerous occasions, and they are really lovely to their patients.
