"Childbirth by caesarean section - Altnagelvin Hospital"

I give birth to my darling baby boy almost two weeks ago at Altnagelvin Hospital. The standard of care I received from the phenomenal maternity team was above and beyond all my expectations.

I was cared for by around 15 different midwives, student midwives and theatre staff and although I remember most of their names, their faces are etched in my memory. The kindness, good humour and compassion shown to my son and me my these incredible girls will always be in my memory.

I was so impressed by the professionalism and competence of these ladies. They are a credit to themselves and to the NHS. Thank you for taking such good care of me and for delivering my son safely.

I was looked after by so many fantastic midwives including but not limited to, Kathleen, Rebecca, Lauren from Strabane, Megan, Niamh, Bronagh, Rachel and a lovely girl from Omagh whose name escapes me - she hopes to progress to be a midwife. She had lovely dark hair and fed my son for me.

Also, the midwife who I think was called Laura who took my son away to let me rest. She wears Britney Spears perfume! Thank you. To Dr Ali, who carried out the surgery. Thank you so much for your professionalism and compassion throughout my pregnancy. I was so grateful to have you carry out the surgery after having looked after me throughout the pregnancy.

To Sarah, the anaesthesiologist - I hope you enjoyed the Taylor Swift concert. Thank you for your reassurance and for calming me. To Rachel, thank you for helping me with the first feed.

I know I will have forgotten others’ names but I was so humbled and privileged to have the experience I did. I will always be grateful and I can’t tell you how much you have impacted me. Thank you!
