I attended hospital last night as I am pregnant and my fetal movements had reduced. It was obviously a scary time for us. From the moment go the receptionist was kind, warm and personable. She explained the monitoring process and I felt like she really enjoyed her job and interacting with people.
Coming down to monitoring I was seen by a lovely nurse who decided to admit me for further monitoring as a precaution. It was a 2 hour wait until the next text and she made sure I had adequate drinks and snacks and a comfortable bed to catch some rest in. She explained what she was looking for and why she had admitted me and even explained the situation to my Husband who we sent home to get some proper rest.
She was happy with the 2nd round of monitoring but wanted some extra time just to make extra sure. I was happy to oblige and felt that me and my unborn son were in safe hands.
Upon discharge I decided to get an Uber home and the nurse ensured I got into it OK which was over and above, but also quite daunting as a lone woman in the early hours of the morning.
At no point was I made to feel a hypochondriac, or a drain of resources. The staff were obviously busy, but I was met with nothing but kindness, politeness and professionalism.
Previously my experiences of NHS practices have been mixed, but last night gave me a sneak peak, and reassured me of the care I'd be under when I give birth in a few months.
Thank you to those I encountered on the labour ward. You're all stars!
"Incredible service from the moment go"
