"A very grateful family"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Acute Receiving Unit (Units 1-5) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / General surgery (Wards 9a, 9b, 9c & 9d) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Initial Assessment Unit

(as a relative),

Aw, after weeks mum is finally home. I just wanted to say thank you for the exceptional care and respect my mum was shown by almost all of the staff that dealt with her.

Initial Assessment Unit - very disappointing

ARU4 - The staff did everything they could when my mum was moved to your ward even with no bed availability.  My mother was left beside the nurses station for 2 hours, hooked up to telemetry and in full view of two dementia patients, 1 of which was aggressive. The ward team ended up cleaning the room themselves despite the call being raised 5 times. Above and beyond their calling.

Ward 9A - Every member of staff from the consultants to the nurses to auxiliaries and cleaners were just amazing. I will never forget the fizzy cola bottles and who was the favourite disputes. Natasha, Carlin, Emma and Kirsty and all the other angels, thank you 🙏🏻

And lastly Ward 51, Langlands building - What a fabulous place this was for mum. She had the best care, encouragement and banter. A much maligned place but believe me, things have changed. Susan, Paddy, Andy, Trevor (OH), Lucy etc, you should be proud of the care and service you provide to people in their most challenging times. The birthday cake and presents were above and beyond but thank you for making my mum feel so special.

From a very grateful family, thank you everyone who helped my mum get better. We appreciate the constraints on you all by the management/budgets etc but you all find a way to get through that barrier and make every day a pleasure for those in your care.

With respect, I hope we never see each other again but we will never forget you x

On behalf of my mother and her family.

Dear Alison24

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this feedback with us. Its always a joy to hear that one of our patients has felt so well cared for during their time in hospital. Jamie Clark, the lead nurse for the 9th floor, has already shared this feedback with the 9a team who were grateful to hear such positive comments.

I wish your mum well on her onward recovery.

Best wishes,

Debbie

Dear Alison24

I am delighted to hear that your Mum is home.

I would like to apologise for your mum’s experience in the Initial Assessment Unit.

As you have mentioned these are very challenging times and our staff continue to go above and beyond for our patients and their families. It is heartening to read about the care and support you received from the teams and it is evident from your words how much this meant. No-one wants to be in hospital for their birthday, but I am glad that your Mum still got a birthday cake and gifts. (Happy Belated Birthday to your mum).

It makes such a difference to staff morale when people take the time to share their appreciation of the staff’s hard work and dedication. Thank you for taking the time to share your story and please pass on my best wishes to your Mum.

Best wishes

Nicole
