I was recently admitted to the QEUH in Glasgow for a nephrectomy. I headed to the Same Day Admissions Unit who weren't expecting me. A quick phone call to the relevant ward, a 10 minute wait and they sorted a room out for me. It was then time to meet the team that were doing the Operation.
Every member of staff that I met in the SDAU was of the highest quality - the nurse taking my details put me at ease; the anaesthetist Iain, was friendly and informative; the theatre nurse, Nana, was caring and efficient; the junior surgeon (forget his name) comprehensively explained what was about to happen; the surgeon, Vlad, was competent and professional.
I awoke after the operation and the nurse in the recovery suite took very good care of me, keeping me informed through the fog of anaesthesia.
When I got to ward 4C, my nurses, Rachael and Gillian, made sure I was comfortable and pain-free and popped in frequently to check up on me.
The night shift nurse, Senga, was very caring when I awoke at 3am and started to watch something on my phone, she appeared and made me a cup of tea with biscuits. The nurses on the following day shift continued the high level of care I received, making me feel valued.
Even the hospital food was better than I anticipated.
My experience from beginning to end was great, I have no complaints about my care and every single member of staff I met was a credit to their profession.
