My partner spent approximately 24hrs in Ward 46, pending haematology opinion/ treatment.
Unfortunately the behaviour of the trained nursing staff fell short of acceptable during his short stay.
He was shown no care or compassion on arrival in the ward ,his admitting nurse failed to introduce theirself or even give my partner a brief chat about what to expect during his stay + he was solely dependent on the junior staff for information.
Thankfully he received professional and efficient treatment from the Haematology Medical staff which proved very reassuring.
He was informed by a junior doctor that he could go home + was able to leave the ward without acknowledgement from the trained nursing staff.
I am an ex- NHS employee + a passionate supporter of our NHS service, however, I feel that it is my duty to send this report .
I am well aware of pressures, staff shortages, + discontent within our hospitals, but as a front- line worker myself, I was indoctrinated with the belief that first impressions, welcome + compassion are sacrosanct when dealing with the public/ patients.
I would like to express my disappointment regarding this incident, but will fearlessly continue to defend our wonderful NHS + its staff.
