"Everything was so well organised"

About: Trauma & orthopaedics / Orthopaedic National Treatment Centre

(as a service user),

I have already sent a short report but wanted to expand now that I am feeling stronger.

When I arrived in the Orthopaedic NTC in Kirkcaldy I was greeted and directed straight to a room allocated to me.  Everyone made me feel welcome and explained exactly what would happen and who would come to speak to me.  Everything was so well organised.  The staff in the room outside the operating theatre were so calming and kind and the operation was over before I knew it (exactly what I wanted).  My case and handbag were beside my bed when I got wheeled to my ward - so well organised.

Unfortunately I fainted a few hours after my operation but a group of very sympathetic and kind nurses cleaned me up and got me comfortable very quickly.  I was sick again the next morning but again well looked after.  I struggled to mobilise because my blood pressure kept dropping when I tried to walk but everyone was sympathetic and let me take things at my own pace.

I ended up spending three nights and four days in hospital.  My surgeon sent someone to speak to me on day 2 but visited me herself on day 3 and 4 which I felt was exceptional attention.  The lady who had taken me and my two ward mates to theatre visited us every day before she went home.

The staff who delivered our meals were so kind and knew very quickly our preferences regarding hot drinks etc.  I would like to stress that I thought the catering was excellent with a good and varied choice.  My only regret was that I was unable to eat much the first few days.  People usually complain about hospital food so I would appreciate these comments being passed on.

It was lovely to see so many local people working in the Centre.  And they all seemed to work well together despite their roles.

I am sure there are many more good experiences I had in what were a few difficult days for me but I hope this gives an idea of the exceptional care I received.

Dear Ann462,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post feedback regarding your recent stay within the NTC.

I am very glad you found the staff welcoming, friendly, well organised and that the theatre staff put you at ease.

It is not uncommon for patients to faint after surgery and I am very sorry to hear that this happened to you.

I am happy to read that you felt your stay overall stay was exceptional and had so many positive inter actions with different members of our team.

All the staff at the NTC wish you all the best with your continuing recovery,

Take care and best wishes,

Aileen
