So, for around 5 years my GP has been suggesting that I use Talking Therapies to support dealing with life events that were overwhelming me, however, I didn't think it was for me and ignored the advice, with hindsight that was a poor decision on my part.
Earlier this year, events caused me to have such extreme anxiety that I described it as 'a crisis', my GP and the surgery staff were exceptionally helpful and did everything possible to ensure I was safe, I was prescribed medication to start the process of recovery, again Talking Therapies was suggested.
So, this time I took the advice, the self referral online was so easy, I was contacted the same day and subsequently chose to have one-to-one therapy.
My first session was arranged locally within just a few weeks, it was there I met Sadia who proved to be supportive, enthusiastic and good humoured, she was quick to understand my needs and pace. It felt we were a team working together to achieve a common goal, I realised that a good outcome relied on us both, I knew I had to fully engage with the process both at the sessions and at home (if I hadn't completed my 'homework' I knew Sadia would spot it straight away!)
What amazed me was how quickly I was able to put into practice the methods that I was taught to reduce anxiety, I would never have thought that it could be mastered in just 4 half hour sessions, but that's exactly what happened.
It is my intention to continue to practise everything that I was taught, I will remain eternally grateful to Sadia and her team for the compassion and understanding that I was shown, thank you all.
