I should begin this by saying that I do not hold any other hospital responsible for the experience related here.
Having been discharged after hip replacement surgery, I fairly quickly experienced some negative symptoms. By the afternoon of the following day my wife had to phone 999 because I had deteriorated beyond a point where she felt safe to care for me.
An Advanced Paramedic arrived very promptly, followed only a few minutes later by an ambulance crew. All three were helpful, friendly and reassuring - although this stage of the report is based on my wife's account, because my own recollection is a bit hazy. I was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General and admitted after only a brief wait. Very quickly both nursing and medical care had swung into action and both my wife and I felt much safer and more confident that whatever was wrong with me was in hand.
I was admitted for a few days, during which I had a number of scans and other tests to both identify and eliminate issues; during that short stay I can only say that everyone who was involved in my care demonstrated the highest standards of professionalism, tempered with kindness and compassion. I can't speak to highly of the nursing staff.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who looked after me and to acknowledge the time taken to keep my wife in the loop and ensure that she was as little distressed as possible. Thank you all.
