After suffering previous losses and an ectopic pregnancy, I entered the pregnancy with my son anxious and worried. I cannot praise the staff at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital enough. From the very beginning, Lee Ann who was my sonographer for both my dating and anomaly scan she still stands out to me as a key person in my care. She was so kind, caring, nurturing and patient with me throughout. So from one very anxious mum who suffered previous loss - thank you for your patience it really does still mean the world to me. I was then cared for by Dr. Summerhill at fetal medicine due to contracting slapped cheek and cannot thank her enough for her kindness and patience during what was a worrying time for me and my family.
As a result of these extra scans I was then scheduled to be induced and was admitted to ward 48 and greeted by the lovely staffing team there who made me as comfortable as possible while labouring naturally over the course of a couple of days.
I’d like to say a special thank you to Steph/Stephanie on the ward who wheeled me down as fast as lightening to the labour ward and took herself entirely out of her comfort zone after being away from labour and delivery for so many years. Without her listening to me and recognising my need to go do the labour suite I’d likely have given birth on the ward. She was so fast in action and got me down quickly for the pain relief I so badly needed as things began to escalate.
I’d also like to say a special thank you to midwife Heather who took over from Steph and supported me for the entirety of my labour until her shift ended as I began to push and bring my son into the world. I can’t thank you enough for everything you done for me. To the midwife and student midwife who then took over my care as Heather finished her shift (sorry I have forgotten your names) I cannot thank you both enough for the encouragement you gave me and for safely delivering our son into the world and tending to me as I became unwell with a temperature.
It’s not an easy job any of you have but I hope this message allows each of you to know how eternally grateful I am to each and every one of you for the care provided to me. From myself and my family, we cannot thank you all enough.
Our baby was born at 20:16 hours weighing 7lbs 1oz. Our rainbow baby, a dream come true arrived safely into the world thanks to each and every one of you.
