"Exceptional support through miscarriage"

About: Western Isles Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

Very sadly my partner and I recently experienced a missed miscarriage with twins, which was only picked up at a scan at 11 weeks. It came as a complete shock, but the maternity care leading up to, during, and after the miscarriage was exceptional. We simply could not have started to recover without the compassionate care we received.

From being booked in for a next day scan due to our concerns, to being offered such kind and personalised support in the aftermath, we simply cannot thank the staff enough.

During our hospital stay our assigned midwife (Lyn) was just incredible, supporting us through distressing stages of the management of the miscarriage and staying on past the end of her shift to provide continuity of care.

On top of that, every member of staff, from midwives to healthcare assistants, looked after my partner, making sure he was involved in decisions and could stay with me throughout.

The consultants and the theatre staff were both compassionate and professional. We just wanted to highlight the excellent level of care and support given in such difficult circumstances.

Even though our pregnancy ended in sadness, we are reassured that whatever our circumstances in future we will be looked after by our lovely and skilled local maternity team. Thank you so much for supporting us to recover.

To you both

I am so sorry for your sad loss and I thank you for your strength in sharing your experience. I also thank you for the very kind words you shared about the Maternity staff during such a difficult time for you both. I will ensure it is shared with them.
