I have had a long period of problems beginning with acid reflux a few years ago.
Numerous scopes have found various conditions and over the years this has been manageable with medication.
The max medication is no longer working & i was advised i'd be recommended for surgery. First of all i'd need an esophageal pH test, that was approximately 18-24 months ago !
Since then i've attended Gastro 4 further times, each time being told that i'd need a pH test. Followed by confusion as to why it hasn't been organised, with assurances it'd now be sorted out.
I attended again at the end of 2023 expecting some kind of progress. What followed was absolutely abysmal & has had a knock on effect ever since.
I attended at the correct appointment time, booking in as normal. I was still sat there an hour later but by then in an empty waiting room. I was approached by a staff member asking if i was waiting for someone. When i said about my appointment she looked extremely surprised to say the least. They'd had me down as not attending the appointment as i supposedly hadn't booked in.
Most staff had gone home by then but i did get ushered in to see someone (don't know who it was).
Same scenario followed, oh you'll likely be requiring surgery but you'll need the pH test first. Don't know why it wasn't sorted out last time but i'll get it sorted out this time.
This was followed a few days later by a call from my GP asking why i'd not attended the appointment. The hospital would be discharging me if i didn't attend the next appointment!
I had to then do my own chasing up with Whiston Gastro as to why my GP thinks i've not attended. The secretary at Whiston had no idea i'd actually attended as there where no notes added from that 'missed' appointment. Apparently an automatically generated letter was sent to the GP due to my not attending the appointment.
She promised to update notes and to inform our GP that i had actually attended but that they'd not correctly booked me in.
I had to wait 6 months for the next Gastro appointment, surely some progress ? The first thing the Doctor in Gastro said to me was that I didn't attend my last appointment ?! I went through it all over again and asked for notes to be added again that I had attended the appointment. The exact same scenario then occurred, oh you'll likely need surgery but you'll need a pH test done first.
So here i am nearly 3 weeks after the last appointment, still with no sign of an appointment for the elusive pH test.
I'm well aware of waiting times etc but seeing as i'm approx 12 months past the original 'oh you'll need a pH test', thought that maybe it'd finally be hastily moved along.
I was advised at the most recent appointment that this would be done sooner rather than later. But based on previous history from Gastro at Whiston i have zero confidence that it'll be getting done anytime soon.
I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if the notes still appear to indicate that i missed my appointment in 2023.
* Is it possible for these notes to be thoroughly checked?
* Is it possible to take a look at where the simple 'booking in' process failed? Surely this will not be the only incident of this kind?
* Is it possible for me to not be continually accused of missing the appointment that I did attend?
* Is it possible to investigate why my crucial pH test appointment continually fails to be processed?
"Booking in process failed"
