"Gave me the encouragement and assurance that I needed"

About: Physiotherapy / MSK Physiotherapy

(as the patient),

Following diagnosis of a pathological break in my right humerus I had a nail inserted during an operation at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

I was then referred to MSK Physiotherapy at King’s Cross HCCC.

I am in my 80s, and with a diagnosis of Leukaemia I was feeling quite sorry for myself.

Joelle, the Physiotherapist, was very positive and reassuring at our first meeting. She outlined a planned programme and urged me to throw away my sling! This was a major step for me as the sling had become a physical and psychological crutch. She detailed the exercise programme I was to follow at home and provided me with an illustrated printout.

I religiously followed the programme of exercises 3xdaily and although I had some discomfort at the outset it soon became apparent that I was making progress. This was confirmed at my next appointment when I was prescribed additional exercises.

I have been discharged but encouraged to continue with the exercise programme.

Having been apprehensive at the outset my consultations with Joelle gave me the encouragement and assurance that I needed.

Most importantly the programme I followed strengthened my arm and shoulder and gave me back my quality of life.

Thank you Blair462 for taking the time to let Joelle and the team know how much you have appreciated the positive experience you had here at Kings Cross, it is always a boost and helps us to continue improving our level of care. Joelle will read your post and be encouraged to continue her great work here. Many thanks again and best of luck for the rest of your recovery.
