Admitted to Dumfries maternity unit for a check up at 38 weeks pregnant, as I was feeling unwell, and hadn't felt baby move. After assessment, I was treated on the sepsis pathway and baby identified as being in some distress, and also breach. I had also being having early contractions which were dropping baby's heart rate, so I was immediately taken for an emergency c section.
All staff were absolutely brilliant, explaining everything and keeping me calm, as I was absolutely terrified. The anaesthetist Gash was lovely, and stayed with me, comforting me the whole time. I couldn't have asked for better.
I stayed on the unit for 6 days. Every single staff member was absolutely brilliant, making us feel well looked after, comforting me when I felt upset or anxious, and putting my mind at rest. The unit was extremely busy, often short staffed. Despite this, we were made to feel important, like we were the only people there, not something that's easy to do.
The care and compassion shown to us on our whole journey has been exceptional. We couldn't have done it without our community midwife Lisa, who has been a source of great comfort the whole journey. I have struggled post-natally with anxiety and mood, but Lisa has understood and helped me to believe that I can do it.
"Care and compassion has been exceptional"
