About: Chard Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit

(as a service user),

Turned up at 1pm on a Sunday for a minor injury I wanted checking out. Website says you can just turn up anytime when they are open, 7 days per week, 8am-9pm. Big sign say UTC closed and to phone 111. Lady at reception said not enough staff. Obviously a very frustrating experience after travelling 20 mile round trip to get there. No information on their website to say it is shut for the day.

Thank you for your feedback, There are times when the Urgent Treatment Centres reach capacity or have critically unwell patients. In order to maintain safety at these times the Treatment Centre may need to close temporarily.

I am sorry that this was the case for you, I would suggest contacting 111 in the first instance as they are aware of any closures and can ensure you do not have a wasted trip.

Hi Hannah. I ended up phoning 111 who actually tried to send me to Chard, so they were also not aware it was closed.

Thanks for this feedback and my apologies, I will investigate and find out why staff did not let 111 know they were closed.
