"Poor nursing managment"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Children's Ward

(as a parent/guardian),

Unwell child, waiting on blood results prior to leaving,

Child sleeping quietly. Previous obs normal, nil expected to be wrong. Child woken to do obs by nurse. Obs normal. Child now awake sore and grumpy wanting to go home, asked nurse to check if bloods are back, they leave and does not return. I go to find them to find out if bloods are back and am told not back.

Return to grumpy Child, within 2 minutes Dr returns to say bloods are normal, we leave.

In summary:

Waking child without checking with parent if ok to wake Child, performing unnecessary observations. And questionable probity when saying results weren't back, after needing to be chased up.

Optics were very bad here.

Medical management was exemplary

Dear Peppereh58

Thank you for providing this feedback regarding your child's recent stay in Children's Ward and I am sorry to read that your experience was not a positive one.

Due to care opinion being an anonymous platform I am unable to review your individual case without more detail and provide additional context to the situation.

Can I ask that you contact the Department Manager for Children's Ward to discuss this further and so that we can review our processes.

Her contact details are: Helen Bauld, 01324 567115. helen.bauld@nhs.scot

Many thanks

Alison McBride
