My husband is nearly 80 and has very poor circulation. He had some cuts and lesions on his left foot which didn’t heal so spent weeks ignoring them before self medicating to no avail.
When eventually agreeing to attend our local hospital the damage was deemed to be severe, and there was a real possibility of eventual amputation.
His allocated podiatrist in in Causeway Hospital, Jane, made a valiant effort to reverse the situation and spent many sessions working to that end. Cleaning up infected areas, removing dead skin, dressing and redressing, having X-rays, sending swabs to the lab to identify the appropriate I V antibiotic, arranging and rearranging doctor appointments and coordinating with other agencies ; no task was too big nor small in her fight against his infection to save his foot.
She kept us informed re progress at each visit, and delighted us with her very personable attitude. She was, and is, a credit to her profession, her Board and her hospital.
We are very grateful that our NHS has such sterling employees as Jane.
