"The service was excellent"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Day Surgery Unit Breast Care / Breast Imaging

(as the patient),

This is a continuation of my story which started a couple of months ago when I went for a routine mammogram. My story continues with my appointment for day surgery on Wednesday at The Day surgery unit of Antrim Area Hospital .

I had to go to the Breast Screening unit first to have Stereo magseed inserted into my breast before my operation. This helps the surgeons identify the correct area to remove making surgery easier and more straightforward.

This was quite a daunting procedure but Lauren was brilliant and explained everything and made me feel at ease. Mairead was also brilliant and very caring and made me feel less nervous. The service was excellent.

Mairead then took me over to the day surgery unit where I was having my operation.

I was introduced to Caroline who brought me into the ward and to my bed and explained what was going to happen. Once again the care was excellent. Caroline was another lovely  nurse who made me feel at ease. Paperwork had to be completed and blood pressure taken etc and this was done efficiently.

Dr Armstrong, the Anaesthetist came to see me ,to ask me and go over questions with me and  explain what would happen before the op.  I had met her before at the pre op assessment. She was excellent and explained everything very clearly.

Dympha was another lovely caring nurse as were all the nurses in the day surgery unit. Unfortunately I cannot remember all their names.

One of the surgeons , a lady ,, can’t remember her name went over paperwork with me and got me to sign a consent form. She was lovely too.  Mr whiteside , the surgeon also called to see me to advise what they would be doing during the operation. He was excellent too.

I was taken to theatre and once again all the nurses there were lovely making me feel at ease. Dr Armstrong, the Anaesthetist explained what they would do to put me to sleep.

I was back in the ward and the operation was over. The nurses were excellent checking on me. I felt very groggy but glad to have the operation over. I was brought tea and toast by another lovely nurse Ciara. and was able to go home shortly after this.

I would like to compliment all the staff , nurses doctors, Anaesthetists and Surgeons in the Day surgery unit and the Breast screening unit.

What a wonderful team.
