"Mental Health Assessment"

About: Highland Community Services / Community Mental Health

(as a service user),

Attended the new Badenoch and Strathspey Hospital for an appointment with the local Community Mental Health Team. 2 CPNs were doing the assessment.

The room they used appeared to be like training room. The window had no blinds. They sat at the corner with the table between us and the door behind them. This was a very traumatic assessment and I felt very vulnerable.

They didn't know my history or that I had been seen by colleagues from their department in the past. My last assessment back in about 2010 was much more relaxed in an appropriate room with low chairs and no table between us. Tissue were available.

The outcome was they would call in about 2 weeks to advise what support they could offer after their MDT. They called and said can't offer anything as my stressor was now gone and would refer me back to my GP.

My GP said they sent letter back to suggest self help options or guided self help. GP also said this was becoming the normal for referrals to the CMHT.

Dear Silverangel882.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience of your appointment with our Community Mental Health Team.

Can I first apologise for the delay in responding to your feedback. Unfortunately I and my colleagues did not get a notification that there had been feedback. We will review with the CareOpinion team the notification process to ensure that we can respond to all feedback quickly.

Can I also apologise to you Silverangel882 for your experience. This is not experience that we would want anyone to have and we are committed to learning so that we can continually improve our services.

It would be helpful if we could speak to you directly so that we might better understand your experience. I would be very grateful if you could reach out to our Patient Experience Team either by email nhshighland.feedback@nhs.scot or telephone 01463 705997.

We look forward to hearing from you Silverangel882 and thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
