"I think they’ve got it just right"

About: Western General Hospital / Day Infusion Unit Western General Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

Admission to hospital after worst flare up of my ulcerative colitis I’ve had in 45 years in 2022.

Admitted to ward 75 which was the best experience I’ve had to date in hospital.

As anyone with this disease will appreciate going into hospital and having to share a toilet is just your worst nightmare.

First time been in private room with own toilet.

I know that this is the main reason why people with this disease avoid hospital thus making themselves more ill by waiting until they’re in crisis as the thought of sharing a toilet is horrendous.

Since being in hospital I’ve been treated at the day care infusion suite for the last two years.

The staff here are so lovely and nothing is too much trouble.  They’re compassionate and I feel they truly care about your struggles. SN Paula is lovely and how she remembers what you were talking about the last time I’ve no idea. She’s so good at checking in on you.

There’s a real sense that they run a smooth ship and are very friendly and like to have a laugh whilst still remaining professional.

I have to come every 4 weeks and they make the ordeal less of a trial.

I think they’ve got it just right.

Well done to them all.

Dear magpiecm75

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us via Care Opinion.

It is lovely to hear your kind feedback regarding the Day Infusion Suite, and how the staff are so friendly and compassionate. This must make the experience a lot easier during your visits.

I have shared this with the team who I am sure will be delighted.

Thank you again and take care

Louise

Thank you for providing feedback with us via care opinion.

I would just like to echo the sentiment about how lovely it is to read your kind words. We try our best to make it as pleasant an experience as possible, for everyone visiting the infusion suite, so it is always great to be able to feedback to the team that they are doing a great job.

I have noted your suggestions on what could be improved. We can provide blankets pillows and hot drinks.. Just let a member of staff know that you require these items, and they will try to assist with your request.

Best wishes

Scott
